Making the Youngstown and Mahoning Valley area a healthier and better place to live and work is the core of the Youngstown 2010 plan. PBS Western Reserve presented YOUNGSTOWN 2010 MOVING AHEAD: A FORUM FOR REPORTING PROGRESS, quarterly broadcasts that updated viewers on the most recent developments in the planning process.

Youngstown 2010 is a planning initiative developed by the city of Youngstown, Ohio, in partnership with Youngstown State University. As presented to the community in December 2002, Youngstown 2010 is guided by four major principles:

• Accepting that Youngstown is a smaller city
• Defining Youngstown’s role in the new regional economy
• Improving Youngstown’s image and enhancing quality of life
• A call to action

The PBS Western Reserve broadcasts enable community leaders to update Mahoning Valley residents on progress toward meeting Youngstown 2010 goals. Programs presented since 2003 have covered a variety of topics, including the following:

• Community forums
• The future of Youngstown’s neighborhoods
• Addressing issues of race relations
• Introduction of the Youngstown 2010 comprehensive plan
• Urban redesign
• Mayor Jay Williams’ vision for Youngstown
