The Master Carpenter Hangs Up His Tool Belt
This is a real toss-up: If I ask you to name the most famous “Norm” in television history, you could be forgiven for thinking of a certain barfly in “Cheers.” Long before he walked into that basement bar, another Norm was in the basement, the attic, the kitchen and the garage of THIS OLD HOUSE. Of course, it’s Norm Abram who, after 43 years, is retiring. Before he walks out the door (that he probably hung) we send him off with a special one-hour tribute. Hear from those he worked with and many others he inspired in THE HOUSE THAT NORM BUILT, this Monday at 9 PM on PBS Western Reserve.
One of my favorite programs on PBS Western Reserve is FINDING YOUR ROOTS WITH HENRY LOUIS GATES, JR. He has a very comfortable presence on TV and finds entertaining ways to engage with people and little-known history. He’s at it again with a new program: MAKING BLACK AMERICA: THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE. This four-part series pulls back the curtain on organizations and networks created by and for Black people. They were designed to help each other prosper and fight against overt and covert oppression. Take a look this Tuesday at 9 PM. I think you’ll learn a lot.
If a lighthearted period-costume drama is more your style, then meet Emma Woodhouse, who is rich, beautiful and clever. She’s the creation of Jane Austen and we have her story starting this Thursday night. This is an all-new adaption of the classic comedy masterpiece that you’re sure to enjoy. EMMA debuts Thursday at 9 PM only on PBS Western Reserve.
