Savor the Season with PBS Western Reserve

This is a good time of year to slow down and enjoy everything around us. Friends, family, food, music, stories … did I mention food?

Fortunately, PBS Western Reserve has all that and a lot more. Let’s start on Thanksgiving Day.

In between the courses of your holiday feast, check in with the lovable, grumpy physician of Portwenn — Doc Martin. We’ll have the entire ninth season of DOC MARTIN playing for you beginning at 12:30 p.m. Catch up on episodes you missed, or just pop in and out for a quick smile. To top it off, at 8 p.m. we look back to see how it began and give you a preview of the all-new season that begins in December.

If it’s music you’re after, nothing compares to Barbra Streisand. Relax the night after Thanksgiving with some leftovers and the new TV special BARBRA STREISAND: BACK TO BROOKLYN. We’ll go back to 2012 when she returned to New York for a very special homecoming with help from Chris Botti, Il Volo and her son, Jason Gould. Join us on Friday, Nov. 24, at 8:30 p.m.

America’s Home Cooking host Chris Fennimore

Now about that food I mentioned earlier: We have a new cooking special that shows how to make great meals on a budget. My good friend Chris Fennimore surrounds himself with guest cooks who show how to make magical meals including roasted butternut squash soup, shepherd’s pie, onion-cranberry brisket and lots more — without busting your budget. We’re serving up AMERICA'S HOME COOKING: EASY RECIPES FOR THRIFTY COOKING on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m.

All our programs are presented thanks to our members. If you’re a member, please accept our thanks. If you are not yet and would like to support the great programs on PBS Western Reserve, activate your membership here.

Take a breath, enjoy the great programs on PBS Western Reserve and be sure to enjoy time with friends and family.

Steve creates the PBS Western Reserve television schedules. Long before finding great programs for you to watch he was a radio DJ. He and his wife are avid travelers, preferring unusual vacation spots such as Cuba and Budapest and sailing across the Atlantic (on an ocean liner, not a sailboat). Tops on his list of famous people he’s met is Fred Rogers. A close second is Mick Jagger or maybe Elton John. His favorite PBS show is “Sherlock Holmes” with Jeremy Brett. Or with Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a toss-up, he says. Either way, he loves looking for new and interesting programs to share with you.
