A Broadway Celebration

Celebrating 50 Years of Broadway's Best

Bright lights. Big orchestra. Costumes, singing and dancing. It’s Broadway, baby! (Shake your jazz hands now.) GREAT PERFORMANCES, “Celebrating 50 Years of Broadway's Best” recognizes the show’s golden anniversary in a big way. Tonight (Friday) at 9 PM, the program features a revue of shows and songs from 1973 to 2023. Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster is your host, with performances by Chita Rivera, Vanessa Williams and many others. If you miss it, catch it on Fusion later this month or check it out on PBS Passport.

There’s more great music this Sunday as we celebrate Burt Bacharach. An all-star lineup of singers performs Bacharach’s biggest hits including “Walk on By,” “I Say a Little Prayer for You,” “What the World Needs Now” and more. To top it off, Bacharach leads his band through a medley of his iconic film music, including “The Look of Love,” “Arthur’s Theme,” “What’s New Pussycat?” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” before closing with a full cast performance of “That’s What Friends Are For.” It’s BURT BACHARACH’S BEST, airing this Sunday at 7:30 PM.

Bob Dylan

If I had a dollar for every time I played a Bob Dylan record on the radio, I’d have several thousand bucks to spend. Oddly, I’ve only seen him in concert once, but it was a night to remember. This week, we take you back—way back—to hear what he was like at the famed Newport Folk Festival from 1963 to 1965. See the moment the music scene changed when he picked up an electric guitar on stage. There’s never been a songwriter or performer quite like him, and these early concerts show how it all began. Watch BOB DYLAN—LIVE IN NEWPORT 1963-1965 this Tuesday at 8 PM on PBS Western Reserve.

Whatever your taste in music, you’ll find it on PBS Western Reserve because people like you make it all possible. If you’re not a member, consider joining thousands of others to enjoy all the benefits of contributing to PBS Western Reserve.

Steve creates the PBS Western Reserve television schedules. Long before finding great programs for you to watch he was a radio DJ. He and his wife are avid travelers, preferring unusual vacation spots such as Cuba and Budapest and sailing across the Atlantic (on an ocean liner, not a sailboat). Tops on his list of famous people he’s met is Fred Rogers. A close second is Mick Jagger or maybe Elton John. His favorite PBS show is “Sherlock Holmes” with Jeremy Brett. Or with Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a toss-up, he says. Either way, he loves looking for new and interesting programs to share with you.
